This is why no one reads your emails

Trust is everything in email marketing.

Hey there,

It is Nathan Schacherer with CreativeDTC.

Trust is everything in email marketing.

Think about your own inbox - which emails do you actually open?

The ones from brands that always provide value, or the ones constantly pushing sales?

I have analyzed hundreds of successful email campaigns across different industries.

The accounts with the highest engagement and conversion rates all shared one thing: they prioritized building trust with subscribers before pushing for sales.

A lot of businesses think email marketing is just blasting promotions to their list.

But how do you feel when all you get from a brand is "BUY NOW!" messages?

Let me break down how to build real trust with your email subscribers:

  1. Balance your content mix. The magic ratio I've found works best is 6 value-based emails, 2-3 middle funnel emails showcasing products/benefits, and 2-3 sales emails per month. This way, subscribers see you as a source of value, not just another company asking for money.

  2. Clean your list regularly and send to engaged subscribers. Nothing tanks deliverability faster than sending to dead emails or people who never open your stuff. Every 3-6 months, use a service like Million Verifier to remove bad emails, and create a sunset flow for subscribers who haven't engaged in 9-12 months.

  3. Make every email worth opening. Your content needs to be so good that people look forward to seeing your name in their inbox. Switch between designed emails and text-only messages (which boost deliverability), include social proof like customer reviews and user-generated content, and always deliver on promises from your popup forms immediately.

  4. Be consistent with your sending schedule. Pick specific days (Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday work well) and stick to them. Test different send times (10am or 7pm on weekdays, 4-8pm on Sundays) to find when your audience is most responsive. Consistency sets expectations, and meeting those expectations builds trust.

  5. Personalize based on behavior when possible. Create targeted flows for specific actions like welcome flows, abandoned cart reminders, and post-purchase follow-ups. This makes your communications relevant and shows you understand what your subscribers need at different stages of their journey with your brand.

The bottom line: trust comes from treating subscribers like actual humans, not just email addresses.

Give more than you ask for, and you'll build a loyal audience that not only opens your emails but looks forward to them.

Email Inspiration Of The Day

Brand: BITE

Notes: This email works because Bite turns what could be boring corporate milestones into a story where you're part of the solution. No BS sustainability claims - just dates, facts, and numbers that prove impact. The design matches their product promise, and they make the customer the hero instead of themselves. Next time you need to share company news, ditch the corporate announcement format and show people the journey they've been part of - and give them credit for it.
