I was reviewing some data from our top-performing eCommerce clients, and something jumped out at me. The brands crushing it aren't just masters of acquisition; they are also obsessed with retention.
Here's the big question I keep hearing:
What's the #1 mistake holding back 7-figure eCommerce brands?
Let me break it down:
1. Overdependence on paid ads. So many brands pour cash into Facebook and Google, chasing new customers while neglecting the gold mine of their existing base.
2. Weak email game. I'm talking welcome flows that don't convert, abandoned cart flows that haven’t been updated in months, and post-purchase emails that miss the mark. Your email list is an asset. Treat it like one.
3. No real customer journey. Too many brands focus on that first sale and then... crickets. Where's your upsell strategy? Your win-back campaigns? Your loyalty program that turns customers into raving fans?
4. Ignoring the power of testing. I've seen brands spending six figures a month on ads but never test their email flows. A simple subject line test can boost revenue per email by 30% or more.
5. Building on rented land. Yes, paid ads are crucial. But are you cultivating direct relationships with customers through channels you own and control?
The brands that break through focus on retention as much (if not more) as acquisition. They're not just chasing new faces; they're maximizing the value of every customer relationship.
